How do I enroll in a music major or music minor program?
Enrollment as a music major or minor is dependent upon your admission to the College and a successful audition.

Does Union College offer music scholarships?
Yes. Music scholarships are awarded not only on the basis of talent, but also on service to the College through participation in ensembles, keyboard accompanying, etc. These scholarships are available not only to music majors and minors, but also to students majoring in non-music areas.

Music scholarship amounts vary widely, ranging from several hundred dollars to full tuition. Grant amounts depend on such factors as:

  • musical talent and experience
  • academic profile
  • personal qualities
  • extent of participation in department activities

Scholarships to music majors will generally be larger than those to non-majors; however, exceptional talent and extensive participation in department activities by a non-major may be recognized with a scholarship equaling that of a music major.

To apply for a music scholarship, you should schedule an audition.

If I cannot read music, can I participate in music at Union?
Yes, depending on the situation. We provide musical opportunities to students with varying levels of musical training. We don't expect everyone to enter Union with advanced musical skills. We offer classes that provide musical enjoyment and education, such as eurhythmics, lessons in voice, piano and various instruments, and ensembles. Of course, some classes and ensembles are reserved for students with more advanced musical skills.
