Vocal and Choral Music

Union College Singers

Open to all students, this concert choir performs in a variety of concert settings on and off campus.

Union Harmony (Chamber Singers)

Open through audition, this select vocal ensemble performs a variety of vocal chamber music, from art music of all periods to contemporary a cappella music.

Union College Regional Chorus

Open through audition to students, faculty, staff and community members, this group practices weekly during the fall semester in preparation for the Christmas Festival concert, and as announced for other events.

Keyboard Music

The Union College keyboard studies program seeks to provide a balanced approach that encourages students to:

• Become musicians first, pianists second
• Become performers who teach and teachers who perform
• Become comfortable in both solo and collaborative capacities

Specifically:

Musicianship is developed not only by theory and solfège as in other curriculums but in conjunction with Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

Pianistic Skills are developed with an awareness of the basics of injury prevention. Music performance medicine is quickly gaining recognition for being as potentially important to our endeavor as sports medicine is to athletes. [More]

Keyboard Pedagogy classes will address both the philosophical and practical aspects of private piano teaching and is based on decades of experience teaching all age and skill levels.

Collaborative and Solo keyboard skills will be encouraged and developed; performance venues will be provided to meet varying skill levels.

Instruments: Practice and performance pianos include two beautiful Steinway grand pianos in our acoustically live Chapel, the spiritual heart of Union's Campus. In addition, a 1991 Randall Dyer pipe organ, a Reuter practice organ, and a reproduction of a double-manual French "ravalement" harpsichord round out the keyboard collection available to students.

Pianists thus prepared will have a variety of employment options/opportunities available to them upon successful completion of the program. Admission to the program requires a successful audition as well as satisfactory demonstration of basic musicianship skills. Open by audition only. Size and make-up varies with the needs and interests of the students enrolled. One rehearsal per week.

Jazz Band
Open by audition only. A jazz-oriented ensemble of appropriate instrumentation limited to twenty students. One rehearsal per week.

Pep Band
Open by audition only. Scholarships are available to first-time freshmen
