The Office of StudentSupport Services offers personal and friendly services that are designed to meet your ever changing collegiate needs. We offer personal, career, and academic counseling in addition to tutoring and Supplemental Instruction via the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The Office of Career Planning and Placement supports efforts of career planning, job searches, internships, graduate school preparation, resumes, cover letters, etiquette, and all other career necessities.

These services are offered free of charge to all Union College students and are designed to support all their academic needs, allowing them to thrive both personally and academically.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Supplemental Instruction (SI) at Union College is adapted from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. This model of student academic assistance helps students in historically difficult classes master course content while they develop and integrate learning and study strategies. There is no remedial stigma attached to SI since historically difficult courses, rather than high risk students, are targeted.

The Supplemental Instruction process begins on the first day of class. You will be asked to complete a brief survey to determine the best time for SI review sessions. Each session is conducted by a student (SI Leader) that has successfully taken the class under the instructor and obtained a grade of “A” or “B”. They will attend all class sessions and prepare review material from class lectures while evaluating their content with the instructor. The SI Leader then prepares three scheduled one-hour study sessions per week.

Tutoring
Tutoring is available free of charge, by appointment only, to all students via trained peer tutors through the Academic Resource Center. All tutoring sessions are held in the ARC and are designed to be flexible in order to meet both your personal and academic needs.
