  John Caldwell Calhoun Mayo, the first coal baron of eastern Kentucky, built the 43-room Mayo Mansion between 1905 and 1912. The gothic-designed church was built by John C. Mayo, includes beautiful stained glass windows and a Pilcher Pipe Organ, which was donated by Andrew Carnegie.
