Union College Reading Center Opens for Second Year
Free admission to football game for donating children’s books

Want to get in free to the Union football game on Saturday? You can by donating a children’s book to the Timeless Tales Reading Center at Union.

Tutors will be collecting the books at Burch-Nau field prior to the 1:30 kick-off against Georgetown College on Saturday, September 23. Donors will be rewarded with free admission to the game.

The Reading Center begins its second year next week, with volunteers tutoring children in kindergarten through third grade, Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Transportation will be provided from local schools to the Center, which is located in College Courts Apartment 1 on the campus of Union College.

"We were excited about the success of the program last year," said Misty Shepherd, a senior elementary education major who started the Center as a project for the Bonner Scholars program. "The tutors and I are looking forward to another successful year this year."

Volunteer tutors will work with the same children for the entire school year, meeting one night a week for an hour and a half. The Reading Center can accommodate up to 16 children each week. For more information or to enroll a child, please contact the Timeless Tales Reading Center at 546-1337.

The Reading Center is sponsored by the Union College Common Partners Office and the Bonner Scholars program.
