Union Receives $100,000 Grant from Hearst Foundation
Funding doubles endowed scholarship fund

The William Randolph Heart Foundation has provided a $100,000 grant to Union College, doubling the size of the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund. The projected income from the increased endowment is expected to allow Union to award scholarships equivalent to the full annual tuition cost.

"Approximately half our students come from rural Appalachian families with incomes below the poverty line," said President David Joyce, "and endowment funding such as this helps Union make a private liberal arts education affordable for them."

The William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund at Union was established with an initial grant of $50,000 in October 1996. The Foundation has provided support to the College since 1980, funding various scholarships and faculty development grants.

Union College is a learning community dedicated to creating personal, intellectual, and social transformation through the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, service, and spiritual growth. Founded in 1879, the College is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
