Dr. Tom McFarland Named VP of Academic Affairs at Union College
Union College has announced that Dr. Thomas J. McFarland has been named Vice President of Academic Affairs. McFarland had been serving as interim academic dean since last May.
A 1969 Union alumnus, McFarland first joined the college as Director of Alumni Affairs and assistant music professor in 1985. Over the course of his nearly 18-year career at Union, he was promoted to associate and full professor of music and until his appointment as interim academic dean, had been chair of the music and fine arts department.
"Tom has done an excellent job over the past eight months and his years of experience at Union have earned him the well-deserved respect and support of the faculty, staff and administration," said President David Joyce. "I have the utmost confidence in his leadership and judgment," he added, "and I look forward to working with him as we continue to move the college forward."
McFarland holds a bachelor's degree in music education from Union, a master's in music performance from the University of Akron, and a doctorate in musicology from Kent State.
