David Joyce Named President at Ripon College in Wisconsin

Dr. David C. Joyce, president of Union College in Barbourville, Ky. since 1996, has been named the 12th president of Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, effective July 1.

"The board of trustees has accepted Dr. Joyce's resignation with both reluctance and gratitude," said Tom Clark, chair of Union's board. "Union College is a better place as a result of his leadership for the past seven years--better academically, physically, and spiritually. The school's vision has been reinvigorated, and the relationship between the local community and the college has never been closer. We are grateful to Dr. and Mrs. Joyce for their many important accomplishments and wish them much continued success. Union is poised to continue its progress toward excellence and they will be leaving us a strong foundation upon which the next president can continue to take the College forward," added Clark.

Joyce has served as Union's 16th president for the past seven years. Under his leadership, the College defined its mission and created a strategic vision that has helped to increase student retention and stabilize enrollment. During Joyce's tenure, Union College has also increased its endowment, constructed academic and technology centers and renovated residence halls and the administrative building. Renovation of the college's library is set to begin this spring.

Under Joyce's leadership, Union College has also become one of 25 institutions recognized and supported by the Bonner Foundation of Princeton, N.J., for work in service learning.

According to chairman Clark, the Union board of trustees expects to name a search committee in the near future and will consider appointing an interim president until a successor can be identified.
