Union College Receives Grant from Brown
Foundation
Union College received $280,000 from the James
Graham Brown Foundation to help fund the Expanding Technology to
Enhance Teaching and Learning Initiative.
This initiative is a multi-year $2 million project
that will support academic technology by expanding equipment in
the classroom and upgrading telecommunications to eventually use
Web-based technology across campus.
"This grant is only a portion of the money
we expect to raise over the next several years. Currently we have
several technology-savvy classrooms and computer labs, however,
we want all our classrooms to be equipped with appropriate technology,"
according to Denise Wainscott, vice president for advancement. "With
the James Graham Brown funding we will be able to equip 17 more
classrooms with up-to-date technology. This increases the number
of teaching spaces with technology to 53% of our classrooms,"
Wainscott added.
Since 1993, Union has worked to provide
the technology infrastructure needed to support all aspects of the
college. The James Graham Brown Foundation has been a big part of
our success over the years, providing funding to assist in the automation
of the library and development of telecommunications, the enhancement
of the campus wide computer network and the early integration of
technology into teaching and learning, and the completion of the
Sharp Academic Center. With this new funding from the James Graham
Brown Foundation, Union administrators are well underway to meeting
their technology goals.
