Union Hires New Dean
Barbourville
native and Union College alumnus, Jerry G. Jackson, has taken the
position of Dean of Enrollment Management at his alma mater, Union
College.
Jackson will officially begin at the college on
Monday, November 8, 2004. Im very excited about being
back on campus in an official capacity. Ive been a volunteer,
avid supporter and occasionally worked under contract, but now I
feel I can fully apply myself toward furthering the mission and
vision of the college, Jackson said.
Jackson will be responsible for meeting the colleges
enrollment goals. I know that theres a lot involved
in the realm of recruitment and enrollment. The colleges success
is dependent upon the number of students who attend. I want to implement
a plan that includes active recruitment within our region along
with the recruitment that is currently being done, he added.
With eleven years serving as a Youth Service Center
Director for the Knox County Board of Education, Jackson brings
with him a lot of experience in communications, managing people
and budgets. He also has a working knowledge of governmentally funded
programs and has worked as a marketing consultant, campaign manager,
graphic designer and writer.
Currently, Jackson serves on the Board of Directors
at Baptist Regional Medical Center, is President-elect of the local
chapter of the Kiwanis Club, a member of the Kentucky Education
Association, Chairman of the Knox-Laurel Adoptions Opportunity Board
Pilot Project for Kentucky, sits on the review board for Knox County
Foster Care and a member of the Knox County Literacy Council.
A graduate of Union College, Jackson received
his bachelors degree in English and Journalism in 1990. In
2003, he obtained his masters degree in Educational Leadership
from Eastern Kentucky University. He is also a graduate of Leadership
Tri-County and Leadership East-Kentucky where he received the Leader
Among Leaders Award in 2003. He is currently enrolled in Leadership
Kentucky.
