The Band is Back at Union College
Union
College has taken the first step at reinstituting a band program
by hiring a new band director. Dwayne Dixon began working at the
college this week to recruit band members for the college's new
Pep Band.
"I'm excited about getting to know the students
and being on the front-end of developing the new band program. I've
already spoken with several students who are interested in participating,"
Dixon said.
"The Pep Band is only the beginning,"
Dixon added. "I hope this program grows into others. I would
like to see a marching band and several specialized ensembles form.
There's one thing for sure, the only way Union can go with this
is up."
Dixon is also working in the admissions office
as a recruiter with his main focus currently being on recruiting
Union College students for the new Pep Band.
Dixon graduated from Eastern Kentucky University
in 2001 and attended Madison Southern High School in Berea, Kentucky.
As a musician himself, Dixon plays the trumpet and baritone.
