Volunteers, Dust Off Your Hammers!
Repair Affair Date is Set
Even though a winter chill is still in the air,
it's time once again to begin planning for the annual Knox County
Repair Affair. Volunteers from around the area are dusting off their
hammers in preparation for one of the areas largest community service
events.
Sponsored by Union College, the 8th annual Knox
County Repair Affair is scheduled for April 16, 2005. This one-day
event combines volunteer muscle and energy from the Union College
family and from the community to repair homes for individuals who
are unable to make repairs for themselves.
Over 100 volunteers are expected to help repair
10 homes in the Knox County area. Past volunteers from the college,
area churches, civic organizations, and teams have repaired roofs
and floors, built wheelchair ramps and that's just to name a few
of the needs met through Repair Affair.
If you or someone you know is in need of home
repairs and needs our assistance, applications can be picked up
at the Common Partners bulletin board located in the lobby of the
Patridge Campus Center (student center) on campus. Volunteer applications
are also available on the Common Partners bulletin board. Or, you
may call Lisa Fugate at (606) 546-1361 for either application to
be mailed to you.
Completed home repair applications must
be received no later than March 4, 2005 and all applicants will
be reviewed for eligibility. Repair recipients must verify a financial
inability or physical disability that prohibits them from being
able to make home repairs. A committee member will contact applicants
in order to arrange a home visit. Volunteer applications are due
March 7, 2005.
