Distinguished Christian Leader to Speak at Union
College
Dr.
Stephen W. Rankin, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and
Campus Minister at Southwestern College, will hold a series of lectures
and discussions on topics related to higher education and church
renewal at Union's annual Staley Lecture Program. The program will
begin on March 14, 2005 with a lecture in Union's student center
and conclude on March 16, 2005 with lunchtime devotional.
Dr. Rankin is scheduled to be on campus March
14-16, 2005. He begins this three-day experience with a lecture.
He will also be available throughout the week for devotionals and
to interact with students in the classroom.
One of Dr. Rankin's main concerns has been to
help the church-related college re-connect to its mission as an
expression of the church's life and work. As part of that aim, he
and his staff have developed an innovative service-learning co-curricular
program called Discipleship Southwestern. The program involves academic
coursework and small-group faith-formation activities along with
service projects that challenge students of all majors to integrate
faith with life in ways that are demonstrably effective for becoming
church leaders.
In addition to interacting with students in various
classroom, mealtime, and devotional settings, Dr. Rankin will hold
the following events to which the public is invited.
-
March 14, 7:00 pm-Lecture, "Re-Constituting
the Heart: What We Love and How We Think" (Patridge Campus
