Union Presents New York Actor Sharon Hope Performing
Poetry and Monologues of True-Life Experiences
Union
College is sponsoring a stage performance of New York native Sharon
Hope, Slices of Life Productions, who will be presenting Performances
in the Key of Life on campus next week.
Hope will be on campus from Monday, April 4 through
Wednesday April 6 and will present two live performances; both are
open to the public. She will be performing at the Rector Little
Theatre on Monday, April 4, 2005 and again on Wednesday April 6,
2005 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. There will be discussions following both
performances.
Hope will be presenting poetry readings and monologues
addressing issues of relationships, abuse, self-esteem, survival
and how theses issues often affect decisions one makes in their
lives. One of the more popular monologues, Women
I have Known: Mrs. Reader, endears audiences with way the
subject, Mrs. Reader, an absent-minded psychic from the Caribbean,
handles the very unpleasant subject of spousal abuse with a hint
of humor and pathos.
Hope is the artistic director and founder of Slices
of Life Productions. Her company's vision is to make audiences realize
the need for divine intervention in life's decision making. She
hopes to achieve this through spoken word performances of observations
of life experiences.
In addition to her current work, Hope has an impressive
list of theatrical accomplishments. Hope's one-woman show, Women
I Have Known, was produced and performed at the John Houseman
Theater Center in Manhattan. Other performances have toured New
York City, some with accompanying workshops.
She has appeared in two different episodes of
television-hit drama Law & Order,
and in an episode of Against the Law.
She has appeared on daytime television in an episode of Another
World and on the television show Survival
Kit for Parents.
In addition to her television performances, Hope
has appeared in the films Little Senegal,
One Crazy Summer with Demi Moore
and Oreo's with Attitude.
She has also performed in off-Broadway productions,
national theatre tours and in regional theatre performances.
The Faculty Committee on Cultural Events
chaired by Union professor Susan Isaacs is sponsoring Performances
in the Key of Life at Union College.
Both performances are open and free to the public. For more information
