Union's 2nd Annual Knox Fund Drive Scheduled
for Next Monday
Union College is once again hosting the 2nd Annual
Knox County Fund Drive dinner. The dinner is scheduled for Monday,
April 11, 2005, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a social gathering and
6:30 p.m. is the scheduled dinner. The event will be held upstairs
in the Patridge Campus Center (student center) on Union's campus.
Union College alumni, and current students will
be on hand to deliver testimonials about the economic, social, and
educational impact that Union has on the community and on the students
who attend the school.
Last year's fund drive was a hugely successful
event, according to Vice President of Advancement Denise Wainscott.
She also said, the original goal of $175,000 was exceeded by over
$24,000. Knox County alumni, friends, businesses, churches and organizations
rallied together helping the college raise almost $200,000 for scholarships
and daily operational needs.
"I can't thank our local donors and volunteers
enough," Wainscott added. "To name them all in this brief
story would be nearly impossible. But I know that many alumni volunteers
spent many evenings here in this office making calls and talking
to people about how important their donations are to the well being
of our current and future students."
"This really puts the pressure on us this
year," Susie Campbell, Union's newest development officer and
Knox Countian herself says. "But I'm positive we can do it."
Campbell has set a new goal of $200,500 and as
of March 24, 2005, the college has raised almost $65,000 toward
that goal.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the dinner and
learn more about the positive impact the college has on the community.
Providing quality educational opportunities for Knox County students
are just one-way Union makes a local impact. The school also provides
jobs, uses local vendors and more.
