Volunteers couldn't have asked for better weather
for Union's annual Repair Affair. With thoughts of winter far behind,
a group of nearly 80 volunteers gathered together to provide much
need service to the homes in the Knox County community.
Sponsored by Union College's Common Partners Program,
the 8th annual Knox County Repair Affair is a one-day event that
combines volunteer muscle and energy from Union College students,
staff, administration, alumni and friends to provide repair services
to homes for individuals who are unable to make repairs for themselves.
Volunteers worked on eight different home sites
and performed duties like interior and exterior painting, building
wheel chair ramps and roof repair. Together the group provided an
estimated 500 hours of community service throughout Knox County.
The Junior Class of Union's Bonner Scholars coordinated
this one-day event with student Lisa Fugate taking the lead. The
Barbourville Junior Women's Study Club, K & C Auto Sales, Bonner
Scholars, Union College Community Government, Appalachian Children's
Home, and other community organizations sponsored the event. Long
John Silvers, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Little Caesars, Snappy Tomato
Pizza and Pizza Hut provided lunch for volunteers.
