New Computer Major Offered at Union College
College officials have announced that a new computer
information technology major is now being offered to Union's current
and prospective students.
The Union College Computer Information Technology
major offers all students a solid foundation in computer concepts,
including software, hardware, networking and design. Students wishing
to concentrate more on technology may select courses designed to
prepare them for various Information Technology (IT) certifications
along with earning their baccalaureate degree. The business-oriented
student may specialize in technical courses designed to complement
their accounting, management, marketing or business administration
majors. All students can expect to prepare themselves for graduate
school or employment in computer technology occupations.
In order to meet faculty demands that this new
major created, a new professor has been hired and is expected to
begin working in the fall.
Dr.
Shifeng Zhang, from Lincoln, NE, will be on staff as students begin
registering for classes related to the computer information technology
major. Zhang earned his doctorate in Computer Science at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln. He has experience in research relating to computer
languages, component framework and web-based support systems. He
has published works in the Journal of Computer Engineering and in
the Journal of Decision Support Systems among others.
Currently Zhang is teaching at the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to that assignment, Zhang served as an
instructor in Shanghai, China.
