Union to Host Country Schoolhouse Conference
Union College will host the 5th Annual Country
Schoolhouse Conference June 20 - 23, 2005. The conference is geared
to the preservation, interpretation and recollections of the one-room
schoolhouse experience.
The conference will include workshops, panel discussions,
paper and research presentations, and displays on a wide variety
of topics related to country schoolhouses and their legacy. Scholars,
educators, historians, museum professionals, and volunteers will
share programs, research and ideas.
Conference coordinator, Dr. Steven R. Lynch, associate
professor of education expects attendees from all parts of the country.
"The conference is usually held in the Midwestern states so
a lot of people who normally attend this event will be coming from
quite a distance."
Some of the scheduled conference topics include:
Stepping back into the one-room schoolhouse 1842, The ABC's of Amish
Education, Where in the world are the one-room schools and many
others with similar content.
The conference begins on Sunday, June 19 with
early arrival registration. There are sessions and evening activities
scheduled daily. It will conclude on Wednesday with a bus tour of
country schoolhouses in the surrounding area.
