Union College Holds Annual Homecoming
and Presidential Inauguration

Union College Chairman of the Board, Lenny Shetler,

Presidential Medallion. The Inauguration ceremony was held on
campus as a part of the college's Homecoming this past Friday.

Celebration was a key theme to Union's annual Homecoming
held on campus this past weekend. From celebrating the inauguration
of the college's 17th president, to celebrating the football team's
victory over Belhaven College (Miss.), Union students, faculty, staff
and alumni had a lot to cheer for.
The college kicked off the annual event with the 13th
Annual Homecoming Golf Scramble on Thursday held at Wasioto Winds Golf
Course in Pineville, Kentucky. There were11 teams in the tournament
with Mario Cima and Jeremiah Lay taking first place, Charles Brown and
Brandon Evans taking second place, and Justin Payne and Bryan Erslan
taking third place. TECO Coal, KCEOC Community Action and Bingham Tire
and Oil were key tournament sponsors. Other sponsors included: Knox
Professional Pharmacy, Knox Plumbing, Electric and Auto, Union National
Bank and Treadway Brothers.
On Friday, September 30, Union inaugurated the college's
17th president during an inauguration ceremony held in Robsion Arena.
President Edward D. de Rosset addressed the crowd saying, "This
is an exceptional day for me, my family, and friends. Among the most
gratifying moments in life are those where one person trusts another."
On Saturday, October 1, Homecoming activities were
held all across campus. Alumni, students and friends of the college
attended the annual Homecoming football game, Union vs. Belhaven College
(Miss.). They also participated in alumni games for swimming, baseball,
softball, and men and women's soccer, class reunions were held and the
Homecoming Royalty was introduced at half-time during the football game.
On Saturday evening, the annual Homecoming Awards
Banquet was held. Three new alums were inducted into the Hall of Fame,
two Rising Star awards were presented and an alumnus was presented with
the Alumni Distinguished Service Award.
Clevis Carter '59 was inducted into the Educator's
Hall of Fame while Bill Hill '70 and Harold Cole '54 were inducted into
the Athletic Hall of Fame. Blair Skidmore '95 and Jessica Terry Bergman
'98 were awarded the Rising Star while the Reverend Dr. Donald Durham
'43, H'64 received the Alumni Distinguished Service Award (see related
story).
Sunday's Homecoming Worship Service was held
at Conway Boatman Chapel to wrap up Homecoming festivities. The worship
service was a joint effort through the Campus Minister David Miller,
the Reverend Joel Allen and members of the First United Methodist Church
in Barbourville.
