PT Pros, formerly Kentucky Physical Therapy, hosted
their annual Daniel Boone Festival 5k race as a community service project
and fund raiser. Proceeds from the event are used to fund the Union
College Scott Butler Annual Scholarship Award and support the Knox County
Cancer Fund.
The Scott Butler Scholarship was established by PT
Pros in honor of Scott whose life ended prematurely as a result of Ataxia
Telangiectasia, a rare neurological disorder. Scott graduated from Lynn
Camp High School. He loved learning and strongly believed in education.
Scott was the son of Doug and Leann Butler of Cannon, KY and a PT Pros
patient.
Union College sophomore, Travis Carmack, was the 2004-05
recipient of the Scott Butler Annual Scholarship Award. Carmack is a
very active member of the Union College community. He is a Bonner Scholar,
Vice President for Commuter and Community Relations of the Student Government
Association, the Treasures for the Student Ambassador organization,
a Student Trustee on the college's Board of Trustees, a member of the
UC Singers and Union Harmony. He is also actively involved with service-learning
projects throughout the community.
Carmack said, "It's an honor to be the recipient
of this scholarship and I hope that I can continue to honor Scott and
his family through learning."
Preference for awarding this scholarship is given
to a Knox County student in good academic standing with a major or minor
in a computer related field or a business related field.
Funds raised annually above the annual award amount
will be placed in a holding account to establish an endowed scholarship.
The Scott Butler Annual Scholarship Award is one of many scholarships
available to Union College students. To make a donation to this or other
Union College scholarship funds, contact Denise Wainscott, Vice President
for Advancement at 606-546-1218.
