Rev. Dr. Ronald Ray Robinson scheduled to speak at Union College as a part of the Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Program.

Spiritual growth, educational opportunities, and the opportunity for civic engagement are all key elements in the mission and vision of Union College. Through the Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Program, Union is offering students and the community the opportunity to hear lectures and participate in discussions centered on how spirituality can be integrated into educational and career choices.

This year the College is hosting distinguished scholar the Rev. Dr. Ronald Ray Robinson. Robinson will hold the lectures and discussions on Union’s campus April 10-11, 2006. He lectures on topics related to faith, service, and higher education. The purpose of the Staley Lectures is to bring to Union College distinguished scholars who truly believe and who can clearly communicate to students and others.

Ron Robinson is Perkins-Prothro Chaplain and Professor of Religion at Wofford College. Previously he served Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte for 15 years. He has also been a campus minister at Duke University. His writings include two books that connect servant leadership with the spiritual life.

A 1978 graduate of Wofford College, Robinson earned two postgraduate degrees from Duke University, and a M.Div. and Th.M. He earned his doctor of ministry degree (D.Min.) at Southern Methodist University and also received a certificate in church management at the Babcock School of Management at Wake Forest University. His interests include popular film and music, sports, travel, fly fishing, and swapping stories.

The public is invited to attend both of Dr. Robinson’s lectures:
Monday, April 10, 7:00 pm—“Spiritual Exploration and Vocation" upstairs in the Patridge Campus Center; 9:00 pm—Bonner Senior Presentations of Learning in the Black Technology Center; Tuesday, April 11, 9:30 am—“Faith and Scholarship: The Quest for Jesus” upstairs in the Patridge Campus Center

The Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Program at Union College is a project of the Thomas F. Staley Foundation of New York. The lecture program was started in 1969 and is active in more than 100 colleges. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Staley established the program in memory of their parents.
