Union College President Edward D. de Rosset presents an incoming freshman student with a medallion at the second annual C.I.R.C.L.E.S. ceremony, a formal event preceded by dinner at which students commit to upholding the core values of the College.

Campus housing at Union College has reached its maximum capacity, and a steady stream of activity is flowing due to enrollment reaching a seven-year high.

Administrators have reported an estimated fall semester head count of 1,425 students, a figure which has prompted an increased level of enthusiasm for the entire population.

The success of seeing a bustling campus comes as no surprise to administrators due to the progress initiated by President Edward D. de Rosset since his inauguration last year.

There were several events and many months of preparation leading up to the first day of classes. The Admissions Office, along with Dean for Enrollment Management Jerry Jackson, spent lots of time and energy promoting the college. From college fairs to open houses and summer orientations, not one moment was wasted.

Once students arrived on campus to begin the new academic year, they spent the entire first weekend getting acquainted. Welcome Weekend involved a competition known as “The Quest” where students participated in an all-day race on campus in order to become more familiar with their surroundings and each other. Movies, games, and other activities were provided to relieve the stress of transitioning into a new environment.

Later, the second annual C.I.R.C.L.E.S. ceremony was conducted on Union’s front lawn. President de Rosset and Barbourville Mayor Pat Hauser welcomed all freshmen to the community and introduced them to the school’s core values: “ Union College challenges the mind, heart and spirit by promoting the love of learning, integrity of character, the spiritual quest, the need for civility in all transactions, and the importance of civic responsibility.”

After faculty, staff members and fellow students presented each new freshman with a medallion to commemorate the start of their academic careers at Union, their journey had officially begun. With the new school year underway, Union College is seeing a great moment in its history, and one that is touching more lives than ever before.
