Author of “The New Faces of Christianity” to Speak at Union

Dr. Philip Jenkins, scholar, author, and professor of history and religion, will speak at Union College on March 12 and 13 as part of the Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture program.

Dr. Jenkins, currently Distinguished Professor of History and Religious Studies at Pennsylvania State University, has written and spoken extensively about issues related to global Christianity, new and emerging religious movements, crime and other social problems, and history.

Dr. Jenkins’ work has appeared in various publications, including the Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and Atlantic Monthly. He has also appeared on CNN, Fox, NPR, and the Discovery Times channel.

In two recent books, “The New Faces of Christianity” and “The Next Christendom: The Rise of Global Christianity,” Dr. Jenkins explores the shifting center of Christianity to the global South. He will expand upon this theme for each of the two lectures at Union College.

On Monday, March 12, Dr. Jenkins will present “Reading the Bible in the Global South” at 7:00 pm. On Tuesday, March 13, at 9:30am, he will discuss “The Futures of Christianity.” Both lectures will take place in the Patridge Conference Room in the Patridge Campus Center on Union’s campus. The lectures are free and open to the public.

The Staley Distinguished Scholar Lecture program brings scholars to campus who can speak to the role of spirituality in the educational and professional lives of students and community members. The program is funded by the Thomas F. Staley Foundation of New York.
