Alumni and friends of Union College from the Big Sandy area gathered in Paintsville on Saturday, June 9. Don L. Jones hosted the group, offering a reception at his home prior to a tour of the Mayo Methodist Church and the Mayo Mansion, Our Lady of the Mountains School.
The event provided an opportunity to learn about recent developments at Union, including record enrollment figures, a $4.2 million geothermal energy project, and a new honors program and the related Sara W. and Bert T. Combs Honors Scholarship.
During their tour of Mayo Methodist Church, the group was treated to an organ recital and history of the church by Zella Wells.
Union College is a private, liberal arts college located in Barbourville, Kentucky and related to the United Methodist Church.
