Author Silas House to Discuss Novel with First-Year Students
Award-winning author Silas House will speak at Union College on Monday, August 20, at 1:30pm. The public is invited to attend the free event, which is sponsored by Union’s Office of Student Life.
Mr. House will discuss his second novel, A Parchment of Leaves, with first-year students who have read the novel as part of Union’s Common Reading program. Students and guests will have an opportunity to ask questions following the author’s presentation. The event will take place in Conway Boatman Chapel and will include a book signing.
Silas House is the bestselling author of Clay’s Quilt, A Parchment of Leaves, The Coal Tattoo, and the play The Hurting Part. A new novel, Eli the Good, will be published in 2008. He is currently collaborating with actress Ashley Judd on a screenplay.
Mr. House has earned an array of honors, including the Appalachian Book of the Year, the Award of Special Achievement from the Fellowship of Southern Writers, the Chaffin Award for Literature, two Kentucky Literary Prizes for Novel of the Year, and the fiction prize from the National Society of Arts and Letters.
In addition to the Common Reading presentation on August 20, Mr. House will be the featured speaker at Union’s opening convocation on August 30.
