Union College Welcomes Eight New Faculty

Union College has brought eight additional faculty on board to meet needs created by a growing student population and new programs in social work and psychology.

Dr. Martha Ellison is Union’s new director of field education for the social work program, as well as an associate professor of social work. She earned a doctorate at the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree at Indiana University. Dr. Ellison comes to Union from Missouri Western State University.

Dr. William Garris, assistant professor of psychology, earned his doctorate at Iowa State University and his master’s degree at Reformed Theological Seminary. He previously taught at University of the Cumberlands.

Mr. Aman Ghebremicael has been added as an assistant professor of mathematics. He is completing his doctorate at Southern Illinois University, where he also earned a master’s degree and served as a teaching assistant.

Dr. Audrey A. Hrinda is Union’s newest assistant professor of management. Dr. Hrinda’s doctorate is from Regent University. She earned master’s degrees from Troy State University and the U.S. Coast Guard Officer Candidate School. Dr. Hrinda previously served with the U.S. Coast Guard in Almeda, California.

Dr. Yousif Mustafa has been named an associate professor of computer information technologies. Dr. Mustafa earned his doctorate and master’s degree at Wayne State University. He comes to Union College from Simplex Systems in Detroit.

Dr. Melinda Rice earned her doctorate at Northwestern University and previously taught at Elon University. She will serve as associate professor of special education at Union.

Dr. Linda Siber comes to Union from Baker University in Kansas. Her doctorate and master’s degree are both from the University of Minnesota. She will serve as an associate professor of sociology.

Ms. Mary Beth Spurlock has been appointed an instructor of English at Union. She earned her master’s degree at Union College, where she taught as an adjunct and worked as a graduate assistant.
