“Discover U” at Union March 29
High school students and their families will have a chance to “Discover U” at Union College’s spring open house on Saturday, March 29.
Union’s office of admissions hosts the event, which gives prospective students and their parents an opportunity to talk with financial aid staff, meet faculty and explore campus life. Open house guests will also talk with current Union students, take a tour, and learn about academic programs.
Jerry Jackson, Union’s dean of enrollment management, says parents and prospective students use open house events as a way to gauge their fit with the college. “Parents appreciate being able to sit down with our financial aid staff and learn about college grants, loans and scholarships, while prospective students take advantage of their time with faculty and students,” says Jackson. “What they really want, usually, is to see if they like the people they’ll be spending four years with. We encourage that exploration, because Union is a place where relationships are very important.”
Jackson is also eager to share news about recently added programs, including the social work major and the Union College Honors Community. “Some prospective students are already thinking about their majors, and we’ve had many express an interest in social work,” he says. “I think they’ll be happy about the new offering.”
