Union College recognized former Bulldog baseball players recently as part of Baseball Alumni Day. Bob Duricko was chosen as the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Athletic Service Award.
The award is presented annually to an alumnus, faculty member, coach, trainer, friend or other individual who supports Union and its athletic programs through outstanding service and commitment, exceptional leadership, and by serving as a role model in the community and in his or her profession.
Duricko’s service to Union athletics began when he was a student in 1969 and played tennis for three years. Since that time he has coached the men’s tennis team, driven cheerleaders to away games when his wife was the squad’s sponsor, and served as a public address announcer under coaches Dave Schmotzere, Charlie Fenske and Matt Ballard.
Most recently Duricko has served as a member of the “chain gang” at Union College football games. This past season marks his tenth year keeping the guard sticks on the sidelines.
In announcing the award, the Union College Alumni Association and the Department of Athletics lauded Duricko for going “above and beyond,” and for doing so “with true pride and passion for our teams.”
Union College also honored baseball alumni in attendance at the ceremony, including Lonnie Baker, ’04; David Bennett, ’62; Jerry Carey, ’65; Tommy Helton, ’05; Brandon Hillard, ’03; Larry Inkster, ’72, ’73; Matt Mahony, ’07; Jim Nehil, ’75; and Darin Wilson, ’95.
