London Center to Hold Open House June 23

Union College’s London Center, located at the Bennett Center campus, will hold its third open house Monday, June 23, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. The open house will give the community a chance to explore earning an undergraduate or graduate degree at the London-based site.

Anyone can attend the open house. Registration is not required.

Programs at the London Center are geared toward community college graduates or adults with at least two years of college coursework. Students may earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration, business management or psychology. A master’s degree in psychology and a certification in Chemical Dependency are also available.

Union College London Center recently changed its academic program and schedule to meet the needs of students who often must work full-time while pursuing a four-year or advanced degree. The goal, according to Jerry Jackson, Union’s dean of enrollment management, is to help working adults and community college graduates go on to earn a four-year degree.

“There are so many obstacles to face when you’re working full time and have a family but want to complete your education,” says Jackson. “The London Center program was created to try to deal with those obstacles by allowing students to transfer all two years of their college credits, helping them with financial aid, and putting the programs on a schedule that fits into the lives of busy adults.”

The London Center also supports Kentucky’s “Double the Numbers” initiative, which outlines a plan to double the number of college graduates in Kentucky by the year 2020. The initiative recognizes the relationship between the number of college graduates in Kentucky and the state’s economic prosperity. While Union College’s main campus in Barbourville focuses on providing a four-year degree for traditional students who are recent high school graduates, the London Center’s offerings support the many adults in the region who still want a college degree but find it difficult to pursue one on a traditional campus and schedule.
