Lt. Col. John Luttrell to Speak at Union
Lieutenant Colonel John Luttrell will be the featured speaker during Union College’s fall convocation on Thursday, September 4, at 9:30 a.m. in Robsion Arena.
Lt. Col. Luttrell is commander of the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry Regiment, also known as the Mountain Warriors. He led over 600 soldiers, including his son, during a 15-month period in Iraq. Luttrell has received many honors for his military leadership. Each of the soldiers he commanded came home safely after service in Iraq.
Luttrell graduated from Union cum laude in 1988 and excelled as both a student and an athlete. He was a record-setting member of the Union College football team and remains the only person in the history of Union football to be named to the NAIA All-American Team three times.
Luttrell has taken part in three combat tours and is a recipient of two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantryman’s Badge and a Combat Parachutist Badge. He was inducted into Union’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and was named Harlan Countian of the Year in 2008.
Fall convocation is open to the public. There is no charge to attend.
