Faith, politics, classical music and Lincoln coming up at Union

Union’s fall arts and cultural events series will bring spirited discussion, a world-renowned musician, and a former president to campus between September 25 and October 2.

On September 25, Union’s Forum on Ethics and Spirituality will focus on election issues and the role of faith in politics.  Guest panelists include Rev. Donna Aros of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Patrick Delahanty with the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, Robert Reeves of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and Rev. Dr. Michael Ward with Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass.  They will be joined by Union faculty Dr. Robert Armour in criminal justice and Dr. Russell Sisson in religion.

David Miller, College Minister, will moderate the forum, which takes place Thursday, September 25 at 7:00 pm in the Patridge Campus Center.  Guests will have an opportunity to pose questions to the panelists.

Jim Sayre will take the stage on Monday, September 29 at 7:00 pm as Abraham Lincoln in “I, Too, Am a Kentuckian.”  The Kentucky Chautauqua performance highlights the former president’s ties to Kentucky.  The performance will be held in Conway Boatman Chapel.

Union will host Teresa Walters for an evening concert on October 2.  Walters has been called “one of the world’s most significant pianists.”  She has played in concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Cortot in Paris and Moscow’s Great Hall. Walters is the first American pianist invited by Hungary to present the anniversary concert in honor of Franz Liszt’s birthday.

The concert will take place at 7:30 pm in Conway Boatman Chapel.

All three events are open to the public and offered free of charge as part of Union’s fall arts and cultural events series.  For more information, call Union at 606-546-1230.
