Forum to Explore Role of Faith in Politics
As the presidential election approaches, Union College is bringing together panelists to discuss the relationship between faith and politics.
The “Forum on Ethics and Spirituality: Election Issues” will take place Thursday, September 25, at 7:00 pm in the Patridge Campus Center at Union.
The forum is hosted by Union’s Office of Spiritual Life, headed by Rev. David Miller, college minister. Panelists will include Rev. Donna Aros, pastor of Cave City United Methodist Church and Highland United Methodist Church and chair of the Kentucky Conference Board of Church and Society; Rev. Patrick Delahanty, interim director of the Catholic Conference of Kentucky; Robert Reeves, communications director with the Kentucky Baptist Convention; and Rev. Dr. Michael Ward, pastor of Walnut Hill Church and a representative of the Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass.
Union faculty members Robert Armour and Russell Sisson will join the panel as well. Dr. Armour is an assistant professor of criminal justice and chair of the social and behavioral sciences department. Dr. Sisson is a professor of religion and chair of history, religious studies, and fine and performing arts.
The panel will explore which election issues are important to particular faith traditions, the role played by religion in this presidential campaign, media representation of a new evangelicalism, and the extent to which a candidate’s faith should be the focus of attention.
Guests will have an opportunity to pose questions to the panelists. The forum will be moderated by Rev. David Miller.
