Union Seeks Members of 1934 Football Team
Union College plans to honor its 1934 football team as a “team of distinction” during the Homecoming Banquet and Awards Ceremony on October 18th, and is seeking members of the team who want to be part of the event.
Former team members or their relatives are asked to contact Melissa Newman in alumni relations at 606-546-1226. Union’s alumni relations office would like as many former team members as possible to be present for the award ceremony.
The 1934 team was the first and only undefeated football team in Union’s history. Coached by Union hall of fame member J.R. Bacon, the team included Clarence Burch, Bill Buchanan, Curtis Stringer, John York, Marvin Young, Clarence Messer, Milton Galbraith, Andrew Miracle, Millard Saylor, John A. Turner, Roland Horrall, TJ Luke, Rowland Patterson, John Gaines, Bill Morton, Bill Raines, Thomas G. Lewis, Tommy Symansic, Kelly Cornelius, Dan Snyder and Ed Landreth.
