Union Goes in Search of Legends for 2008 Homecoming
Union College will welcome hundreds of alumni and friends to campus the weekend of October 17th for its annual homecoming celebration.
This year’s homecoming theme is “in pursuit of legends.” Current students created the theme in honor of the accomplishments of Union alumni and the legacies they have left behind at the college.
The weekend is filled with events and activities, including Saturday’s homecoming football game, when the undefeated Bulldogs, who are the 11th-ranked NAIA team in the country, take on Pikeville College.
The annual homecoming golf tournament at Wasioto Winds is scheduled for Friday at noon. Pre-registration is required.
New events have been added to the homecoming schedule. Alumni and friends will be treated to a live performance by The Medley Boys, a southern rock band, on Friday evening. The new “Meet U at Tent City” begins Friday as well, when alumni will decorate decade tents on the football field in a spirited competition for bragging rights.
Saturday’s line-up features the Homecoming Banquet and Awards Ceremony. Union will induct three new alumni into the Hall of Fame, honor the Rising Star Award winner and announce the new Team of Distinction award, given this year to two teams: Union’s 1934 football team and 1968 basketball team. The banquet will conclude with a live performance by Ron Vanover.
Saturday’s activities also include the annual athletic breakfast. Former athletes, coaches, fans and friends of the athletics program are invited to attend.
