Visiting Scholar Will Explore Christianity and Politics at Union College
Author and professor Eric Gregory will visit Union College Feb. 9 and 10 as part of the Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture program.
Gregory, a professor with Princeton University’s department of religion, will give two lectures. Both will be held in the student center’s Patridge Conference Room and are free and open to the public.
On Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 p.m., Gregory will present “Christianity and Liberal Democracy: An Augustinian Defense.”
Gregory’s second lecture is “Christianity and American Politics: Where Do We Go From Here?” It will be held Tuesday, Feb.10 at 9:30 a.m.
Gregory is interested in Christian ethics, theology and political theory. In addition to numerous articles, he has one book to his credit, “Politics and the Order of Love: An Augustinian Ethic of Democratic Citizenship.” His next book will examine the nature and scope of moral obligation in a global age, with emphasis on readings of the Good Samaritan parable. Its tentative title is “What Do We Owe Strangers? Global Justice and the Good Samaritan.”
The Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture program brings guests to campus who can speak to the role of spirituality in the educational and professional lives of students and community members. The program is funded by the Thomas F. Staley Foundation of New York.
