Head of Kentucky Human Rights Commission to Give Keynote at Union's Celebration of Diversity
John J. Johnson, executive director of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, will speak at Union College on Feb. 13.
Johnson will serve as the keynote speaker at Union College’s 2nd annual Celebration of Diversity event, sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Sharp Academic Center on Union’s campus. The public is invited to attend.
Johnson has enjoyed a long career as a leader in civil rights, human rights and social justice. He has been involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for many years, serving as president of a Kentucky chapter, president of the group at the state level, and as the chief program officer of the group’s national office in Maryland. There he directed the NAACP National Voter Program, which led to the largest increase in African-American voters in the nation’s history.
In his role with the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, Johnson works to address discrimination in the commonwealth through enforcement of the Kentucky Civil Rights Act.
