Award-winning poet Sofia Starnes will give a reading of her poetry at Union on Thursday, March 26.

Award Winning Poet to Give Reading at Union

Sofia Starnes, award-winning poet and writer, will give a poetry reading at Union College’s Weeks-Townsend Memorial Library on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m.  
 
Starnes will be available to sign books after the reading.
 
“Corpus Homini: A Poem for Single Flesh,” Starnes’s most recent work, was awarded the 2008 Whitebird Poetry Series Prize.  She is also the author of “A Commerce of Moments,” winner of the Editor’s Prize in the Transcontinental Poetry Award Competition.  In 2002, “The Soul’s Landscape,” a chapbook, was selected by former US Poet Laureate Billy Collins as winner of the Aldrich Poetry Competition.
 
Starnes is the poetry editor for the Anglican Theological Review and owner of Creative Writing Critiques, an editing and tutorial service for writers of poetry, fiction and non-fiction.  Her poetry has been published in numerous journals, including Christianity and the Arts, Southern Poetry Review, Christianity and Literature and The Marlboro Review.
 
Starnes is the wife of Dr. William H. Starnes Jr., a Union alumnus who also will visit campus March 26 and 27 as a Distinguished Alumni Scholar.
 
Union College is a private liberal arts college related to The United Methodist Church and located in Barbourville, Ky.
