Repair Affair Slated for April 18: Volunteers Welcome

Union College is in the midst of planning the annual Knox County Repair Affair, scheduled for Saturday, April 18.  The event, now in its twelfth year, pairs teams of volunteers with homes in need of repair.

The one-day blitz event involves 100 volunteers who divide into teams to repair ten homes throughout Knox County in one day.

Repair Affair is sponsored by Union College’s service-learning program, Common Partners.

Though the ten homes have already been chosen, individual and team volunteers can still sign up.  Call 606-546-1231 to request an application.

In past years, home repairs included roof or floor work, wheelchair ramp construction, rebuilding porches, insulation, window installation, painting and more.

In the 12 years since its inception, Repair Affair has spent $60,000 repairing more than one-hundred homes.  Twelve-hundred volunteers have been part of the project, donating labor worth at least $134,000.  Local restaurants contribute each year as well, giving $6,000 in meals to volunteers.
Union College is a private liberal arts college related to The United Methodist Church and located in Barbourville, Ky.
