Kenneth Todd Merida, a teacher at KCMS, received a Recognition of Excellence award for high PRAXIS test scores.

Union Education Students Earn High PRAXIS Scores

Three Union College education students were recognized recently for receiving exceptional scores on the PRAXIS II test.

Tracie Hays of Tyner, Ky., Jason McCowan of Annville, Ky., and Kenneth Todd Merida of Bimble, Ky., scored at levels that place them in the top 15 percent of all test takers in recent years.

According to the Educational Testing Service (ETS), the PRAXIS series are assessments used by states as part of their teacher licensure and certification process.  The PRAXIS II tests measure general and subject-specific knowledge and teaching skills.

Merida is a coach and teacher at Knox County Middle School. He received an ETS Recognition of Excellence award for his scores, along with a letter from the organization. The certificate recognizes Merida for a “high level of proficiency in an area critical for professional educators.”

Union’s Department of Education Studies offers undergraduate certification programs at the elementary, middle grades, secondary and special education levels. The graduate education program offers master’s degrees and the Rank I.
