Union Prepares to Welcome Hundreds for Homecoming ‘09
Hundreds of alumni and friends will make their way to Union College next weekend for CU @ UC: Union College Road Trip, the 2009 homecoming celebration.
The road-trip-themed event will begin Friday, Oct. 23 and continue through Sunday, Oct. 25.
Homecoming weekend will be packed with family-friendly events, including Saturday’s football game against Shorter College.
Union and guests will kick-off the event with the first-annual Picnic at the Pavilion Friday evening. Earlier on Friday, alumni and friends will participate in a golf tournament at Wasioto Winds.
Saturday’s lineup features the return of Meet U at Tent City, a tent-decorating competition between alumni of different decades, the homecoming football game, and the annual Homecoming Banquet and Awards Ceremony. This year, four alumni will be inducted into the hall of fame. Three additional awards will be presented, including the inaugural Doug and Jane Blair Legacy Stewardship Award. The 2009 recipient is Kentucky River Properties, LLC.
Saturday will also include the annual athletic breakfast, campus tour, tailgating, the President’s open house and ballroom dancing following the awards ceremony.
Over the course of the weekend, alumni and friends will participate in two service projects: donations to Union’s Career Closet, which helps students prepare for job interviews, and a silent auction of vintage Union tee-shirts and other items to raise funds for Union’s community service program.
The weekend will come to a close on Sunday with a worship service and brunch.
