Social Work Career Day Features Proclamation

Barbourville Mayor David Thompson and Knox County Judge Executive J.M. Hall came to Union College Thursday to officially proclaim National Social Work Month in Knox County.

Thompson and Hall signed the proclamation as part of Union’s Social Work Career Day. They were joined at the podium by Union President Ed de Rosset and Jim Cox, director of Union’s new social work program.

A steady stream of guests attended the fair, which gave current and future college students a chance to explore a variety of social work careers. Over a dozen area social service, non-profit and government agencies exhibited at the event.

Cox collaborated with Union’s Office of Admissions to organize the event. They hoped to promote social work as a career to college-bound students by demonstrating the range of options available to people who enter the profession. The demand for social workers in Kentucky is expected to increase significantly over the next ten years.
