French Teachers Invited to Apply for Travel to Cameroon
Current and future K-12 French teachers in central Appalachia are invited to apply for a grant-funded trip to Cameroon this summer.
Teachers must apply by April 25.
Union College in Barbourville, Ky., has received a grant award from the Fulbright Hays Group Projects Abroad (GPA) program. The award provides funding for 12 French teachers to participate in a 5-week language and cultural trip to Cameroon, a multilingual country in central-west Africa.
Tentatively, an orientation for selected participants is planned for May 21 and 22. The college expects that teachers will leave for Cameroon June 20 and return July 25. The program will pay for airfare, lodging and food expenses and will help participants develop language, cultural and pedagogical skills.
The travel experience may count for up to six graduate credits in education for those who need and request the credits.
The GPA program will be led by Fidelis Achenjang, Ph.D. Achenjang is a native of Cameroon and teaches chemistry at Union College. Achenjang and colleague Charles Jones, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Union, led a similar and successful Fulbright Hays travel experience to Cameroon in 2007.
To apply for the program, contact Achenjang at 606-546-1275 or fachenjang@unionky.edu. French teachers in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia are invited to apply. More information is also available at the Union College Fulbright website.
