Kenneth Ramsey, a Union alumnus and Artemus native, will give the opening address at Union’s Fall Convocation. The successful entrepreneur once attended Union on an academic scholarship.

to Speak at Union

Kenneth Lee Ramsey, a native of Artemus, Ky., will help open the 132nd academic year at Union College as the featured speaker for Fall Convocation.

The event will take place in Robsion Arena at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2. The public is invited to attend.

Ramsey attended Union on an academic scholarship after graduating as valedictorian from Artemus High School. He studied at both Union and Eastern Kentucky University before completing a Bachelor of Science in business and personnel management at the University of Kentucky. He is married to Sarah Kathern Ramsey, also a Union alumna and an Artemus native.

The Ramseys have enjoyed recent success in the thoroughbred industry. They own Ramsey Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., which features just over 1,400 acres and 600 thoroughbreds. The couple is considered one of the top owners and breeders in the industry. They have won more than 20 leading owner titles at race tracks around the country. Their horses have competed in the world’s top races, including two appearances at the Kentucky Derby and a first-place win at the world’s richest race, the Dubai World Cup. In 2005, they were North America’s leading owners by earnings.

Before entering the thoroughbred arena, Ramsey made his mark as an accomplished entrepreneur. He was a pioneer in the cellular telephone industry at local and national levels, owned one of the top real estate firms in Lexington, and purchased successful radio stations. The Ramseys remain active in several ventures, including radio and real estate. He serves on the Union College Board of Trustees. Mrs. Ramsey is a member of Union’s Trustee Spouses Group.

Union’s Fall Convocation serves as the official opening of the academic year.
