Union Gears Up for Homecoming 2010

Union College’s 2010 Homecoming Weekend is Oct. 22-24. This year’s theme, Mirror, Mirror-What Do You See?, gives alumni a chance to reflect on all the changes at Union since they graduated.

Union College is preparing to welcome hundreds to campus for Homecoming 2010, and to recognize several accomplished alumni as part of the weekend’s festivities.

Homecoming weekend is October 22-24. Union alumni and friends can register for events, see a complete list of activities and reunions, and check out who’s coming by visiting the homecoming site online at www.unionky.edu. Nearly 300 have already registered.

A highlight of the weekend is Saturday evening’s Hall of Fame awards banquet and dinner. Six individuals and three athletic teams will be recognized for their achievements. The honorees include the following: Gregory Lee Duncum, ’89, Athletic Hall of Fame; Melissa Evans, ’93, ’95 MA, Educators Hall of Fame; Sonya L. Jones, Ph.D., ’69, Educators Hall of Fame; Gerald, ’56, and Bonnye Swim, ’64, Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Clavia Ruth Wooten-Kee, Ph.D., ’96, Rising Star Award; the 1955 Bulldog track team and the 1969-71 Bulldog golf teams, Team of Distinction Award; and the Ferocious Few intramural basketball team, the Spirit of Soldiers and Sailors Award.

Additional events include an alumni and friends golf tournament at Wasioto Winds, a Bulldog Spirit Cookout, a new Bulldog Homecoming Dance, the friendly Meet U at Tent City tent-decorating contest, the Tailgate Barbecue and the annual Athletic Breakfast. A slate of more than 15 events is offered this year, including special reunions for the music, theatre and swim programs.

Homecoming guests are also invited to participate in a service project by bringing gently used business attire and accessories for the Union College Career Closet. Union students are encouraged to use the Career Closet as they prepare for job interviews.
