Union’s Diana Mills Earns Woman of the Year Honors
Diana Mills, a grant writer and researcher with Union College, will be recognized as one of the Tri-County’s “Women of the Year” on January 27.
Mills is one of 12 local women to receive the honor. The Tri-County Women of the Year program was created by the Corbin Times-Tribune to celebrate “women of distinction” in the area. This is the fourth year of the program.
Recipients are recognized at an awards banquet and in a special section of the Times-Tribune. This year’s banquet will take place on Jan. 27 at the Corbin Technology Center. For ticket information, contact the Times-Tribune at 606-528-2464.
In addition to her current work with Union, Mills has enjoyed a long career in the Knox County school system as an educator, librarian and grant writer. She came to Union after retiring from the school system.
In her spare time, Mills is active with several community programs, including Barbourville’s Redbud Festival. Her Redbud involvement includes creating and organizing Writers’ Row, which promotes literacy and reading by bringing authors and readers together as part of the festival’s slate of events.
Ed de Rosset, Union’s president, says Mills is an asset to Union.
“We are glad to have Diana on the staff,” he says. “We are especially pleased with her grant writing success, which helps us provide educational opportunities for regional students in the sciences and other disciplines.”
