The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (IE) provides resources to effectively conduct planning, assessment (including accreditation), and research at Union College.
The purpose of institutional planning is to determine institutional priorities in defined, measurable ways in defined periods of time to maximize successful learning by students and the effective use of resources. The IE Office coordinates the monitoring and reporting of strategic outcomes in the Union College strategic plan, Union 2020.
Assessment is the process by which an institution determines if the outcomes that it defines as being important are being accomplished at the desired level(s) of importance. The IE Office coordinates the collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment results to both internal and external organizations and groups. Some of the external reporting is submitted to governmental (KY Council on Postsecondary Education, i.e.) and regional organizations.
Accreditation is a form of assessment by which institutions are found to comply with regional or national standards of performance in areas of learning programs and other organizational units that support the successful learning of students. The IE Office submits accreditation reports to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) as well as to specific professional organizations (National League of Nursing, i.e.).
Institutional Research is designed to generate, collect, analyze and report data necessary to inform decisions made by both internal and external stakeholders regarding all activities and aspects of an educational institution. The IE Office submits reports to the US Department of Education through the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the Kentucky Council for Postsecondary Education (CPE), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and other local and regional entities.
