Dr. Rubin teaches online, hybrid, and face to face courses in literacy, research, and technology. He organizes support activities for ESL students at Union and runs a tutoring program with his students at Lay Elementary School.

Jim worked for many years as a guitar builder and became interested in teaching through experiences working with the New Mexico Artist in Residence Program teaching adults and high school students how to make their own instruments. He went on to get a TOEFL certificate and a masters in education with a specialization in ESL. He received his doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction and focused his dissertation on the effects of peer mentoring for freshman students in an academic enrichment program.
