Union College students receive PRIDE Volunteer of the Month Award

The Union College freshman class earned the PRIDE Volunteer of the Month Award for participating in Service Day — one-day service “blitz” in their new community. On Aug. 22, groups of 20 to 25 students performed community service at 13 locations in the region. A total of 230 students participated.

Golden Can food drive underway; Union College challenged to defend trophy

The Pursuit of the Golden Can is a collegiate food drive competition held annually between southeastern Kentucky colleges including Union College, University of the Cumberlands and Eastern Kentucky University. Union has bested the other schools in the competition since entering the program four years ago.

Union College hosts gripping documentary '1971' which exposes the FBI

Union College presents 1971 with director and producer Johanna Hamilton as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers at Rector Little Theatre on Wednesday, October 14. Hamilton will be in attendance and hold a discussion following the film. The event is free and open to the public.

Union College men's soccer team upsets No. 1 University of Rio Grande

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, but it's even better when you are lucky and good. Such was the case for No. 25 Union College as it defeated visiting No. 1 University of Rio Grande (Ohio) 2-1 on Saturday in non-conference men's soccer action.

New tuition program at Union College to focus on southeast Kentucky students

Union College recently announced the Southeastern Kentucky Grant, a tuition assistance program which will be available to students beginning in the fall of 2016. The new program was unveiled to high school guidance counselors during a conference with Union’s financial aid and admissions personnel.

Union College nursing students began journey toward career in healing

In a white coat ceremony held at the Conway Boatman Chapel, Marisa Greer, Interim Dean of Nursing, led 16 students across the stage and cloaked each with a white lab coat; a universal symbol of the career the students have chosen to pursue. The ceremony is a closely regarded tradition in the nursing and medical field.

Bonner Foundation president helps to launch new service program at Union College

Robert Hackett, President of The Corella & Bertram F. Bonner Foundation, joined Union College students, faculty, staff and community partners to help launch the Center for Civic Engagement; the college’s new service-based steering organization. “While the college is officially launching something new, it is also building upon its very significant legacy of service,” Hackett said.

Union College Earns NAIA Five-Star Silver Award

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recognized Union College as a Five-Star Champions of Character Silver Award winner for 2014-15. Institutions are measured on a demonstrated commitment to Champions of Character and earned points in character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion.

U.S. News & World Report ranks Union College among top schools in the south

Union College is ranked among the top 100 colleges in the south according to the 2016 U.S News & World Report best colleges rankings, which were released this week. Union is ranked No. 83 by U.S. News and World Report in the publication’s Regional Universities South Rankings.

Fall convocation marks official start to new academic year

The 2015-16 academic year is officially underway at Union College with completion of fall convocation. The program was held at Conway Boatman Chapel on Thursday with the entire undergraduate student population in attendance. Mary Beth Spurlock served as the guest speaker for this fall's convocation.

Union College awarded nearly $400K to continue online program development

The Department of Education approved a grant of nearly $400,000 to allow Union College to continue with programming geared toward online course development. Tara Cooper, Union’s Associate Academic Dean, announced the grant to the campus community late last week.

Incoming Union College students begin college life serving community

More than 200 incoming Union College students spent a part of their first full weekend on campus “paying it forward” throughout the community. Students participated in community service at 13 locations throughout Barbourville, Knox County and the local region Saturday.
