Low-Residency Program

The Union College Low Residency programs accepts international graduate students studying on an F1 VISA. Union College Low residency programs offer you the opportunity to live anywhere in the U.S. and work in your discipline of study while still obtaining an advanced degree in as little as 5 semesters.

With Union College’s Dual Master's Program you can combine two of our Low-Residency master degrees, and complete both programs in just 8 semesters.

Union College’s SEVIS certified, SACSCOC accredited master programs meet all F1 visa study requirements through a mandatory full-weekend residency each semester.

  • Successful Completion of required program courses (as detailed by program in links above)
  • (1) weekend residency session per semester (Fri-sun)
  • Successful completion of curricular practicum training (for details click here)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA exit requirement

Residency weekend sessions are mandatory and will be held at the main Barbourville, KY campus. Students will be required to attend (1) residency weekend per semester.

Weekend residency schedule will be as follows:

  • Friday 5:00-9:00 p.m. EST
  • Saturday 9:00 a.m-9:00 p.m. EST
  • Sunday 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. EST

A student must attend all three (3) days to receive credit and fulfill immigration in-seat class component to retain F1 status. Should a student not attend any part of a full session, the student will be counted absent for the entire residence weekend. As such, requests to arrive late or leave early will not be approved. Missing a residency results in a student being dismissed from the program and for F1 students, SEVIS record (I-20) terminated.
