After a 15-year hiatus, Union College will once again offer a Bachelor of Arts in Music beginning in the Fall of 2018.

“I could not be more pleased we are once again offering the opportunity for students to pursue their love of music at Union College,” said Dr. Virginia Gay Gandy, Department Chair and Director of Choirs at Union College. “Although Union has a long history of musical excellence, the addition of the BA in Music will better serve our current and prospective students.”

The major will focus on four main areas of study; Music Theory, Music History, Private Lessons, and Ensemble Performance. This program of study will afford students a well-rounded musical education whether their interest is vocal or instrumental.

“It has been a treat working with our growing band here, but the addition of the BA in Music will spur even more interest in what is happening musically on the Union Campus,” said Mr. David McCullough, Director of Bands at Union College.

Union currently boasts three choirs and two bands; Union Singers, Union Harmony, the Union College Regional Chorus, the Bulldog Band and Concert Band. Additionally, Musikgarten at Union, a music program for toddlers, is in its second year of teaching music to the littlest among us.

Dr. Gandy adds, “The Union Singers is the largest is has been in decades, the band program is growing and our service to the Barbourville Community, and surrounding communities, continues to be our mission.”
